for those who’ve recently been trying to say that antisemitism is no longer a problem or that jews take up too much space talking about it: literally three days ago a family who lives just a few min away from me had the word JEW spray-painted on their house w/ a swastika on each side
when we’re talking about antisemitism we’re not just talking about the few that make the national news—the graveyard desecrations, the hundred something bomb threats, etc, etc. we are talking about neighbors. we are talking about jews who frequent the same places we do. we are talking about kids [the kids, sadly, saw the tag] who go to school with my rabbi’s kids
literally, if i had a mezuzah on my door like they do, i could have been the one with the swastikas on my wall, given how close i am
i was enjoying the new jay-z album for like 2 whole tracks until he went antisemitic but honestly i don’t know why i expect better of literally anyone anymore & i’m not going to watch as only black jews or just jews in general bring it up & it’s not talked about by anyone else at all
im reminded of the time that kanye was like ‘yeah jews own the entire media industry and they’re holding me back’ & when the interviewer was like ‘UH…’ he said ‘i don’t know why people saying you have a lot of money is a bad thing’
or when MIA was, in the middle of her rant about how black people didn’t ‘own rap’ [lmfao what] that it was ‘the jews who own the entire thing [media]’ who were keeping her out of performing somewhere and not, say, the fact that she was being racist
or B.O.B. amid his flat-earthery, talking about how it’s all ‘the jews’ who are ‘keeping the truth’ from everyone by virtue of ‘owning everything’
it’s that fundamental…disconnect and misunderstanding of the way antisemitism presents itself mainly [the J00Z have all the POWER and they’re USING IT TO KEEP EVERYONE ELSE DOWN] when [a] we’re just like everyone else, scattered across all classes & [b] there are always way more christians in any space or profession than jewish people but we’re focussed on bc of conspiracies that usually lead to our harrassment and/or murder
there’s no such thing as positive discrimination
also hey, the reason there are jews in moneied professions is bc you lot forced us to handle ur money bc u considered money a sinful thing but you still needed it and we were going to ‘hell’ anyway so it was the only job we could get. now everyone wants money and suddenly we’re the devil keeping you away from it
i think what pisses me off the most is Jay-Z is arguably one of the most popular artists on the planet
how many people are going to hear that line and internalise it and take it as truth and use it as a weapon in the future, or let it colour their perception of all jewish people they meet??
i want to talk about the word “jew” for a hot second, because i don’t think gentiles understand why some jewish people don’t like being called that. this year, cnn had a banner that said “Alt-right founder questions if Jews are people.” now, they’ve gotten a lot of backlash for it, and apologized, but here’s the point: the sentence “Are Jews People?” is very different from “Are Jewish people people?” See, in the second sentence, the absolute ridiculousness of the question is even more clear, because of course a jewish person is a person, it’s right in the name. But by calling jewish people “jews,” it allows certain groups to dehumanize us, remove our personhood. I’m not suggesting we get rid of the term “jew” entirely, but the full word is something to keep in mind when using it.

This is going to be long. Really long. And honestly, I’m exhausted by the rest of the world and I’d really rather not be writing another one of these posts so I’m not apologizing for the length of this. But I think it’s important to put all my thoughts and issues with this book into one post, instead of scattered angry tweets, and the tweets only encompassed a fraction of the problems I found in this book.

I actually think it’s worse than For Such a Time, because at least that trashfire was honest about the main character being a Christian. this kind of pretending is so insidious and poisonous.
Wasn’t For Such a Time also printed on a xtian “inspirational romance” imprint? I think that at least meant people could be prepared for the context/the audience was Christian from the beginning?

Note that many minorities (most commonly Jewish people) are frequently accused of having disproportionate societal influence or of all being simultaneously otherwise privileged and thus of being themselves oppressors or at least of not actually being oppressed. They may even be accused of simply being the real oppressor class. The only non-majority group this is actually true of is the rich, as a primary group. Claims of other groups exerting minority control or being unusually wealthy or being overrepresented positively etc. are pretty much unilaterally false, and easily debunked in most cases. If someone says something like “Actually, [X group with little funding or organization] secretly controls [major organization or governing body]/bullied or lobbied them into granting them recognition and privileges they don’t deserve,” they are being a very serious bigot.

Bearing Witness- Marking 78 Years to the Events of Kristallnacht “the Night of Broken Glass”.
78 years ago today, the Nazi government led people to attack Jewish-owned businesses, buildings and synagogues throughout the country and in parts of Austria, at a time of intense discrimination of Jews, which included boycotting their businesses.
The attacks were called “Kristallnacht”: the “Night of Broken Glass” because of the shattered windows throughout the cities. Synagogues were burned, 91 Jews were murdered, and 30,000 Jews were arrested and taken to concentration camps simply because they were Jewish.
Let us never forget that the horrible crimes against humanity that occurred in WWII were not sudden, but a product of gradual and increasing persecution.
