A newspaper from 1922

Recently my father-in-law showed me a 104-year-old newspaper that had been kept in the family attic. I LOVE that kind of thing so I was eager to take pictures!

February 28, 1922. The Princess Mary referred to is this one, the great-grandchild of Queen Victoria.

The various aristocrats attending the wedding.

Many ads, plenty of them wedding themed:

Part of a short story. The other parts are lost to time now I guess. Apologies that I can’t upload it in its full size, WordPress lacks that very basic functionality.

A cartoon that is, to my surprise, mildly (very mildly) critical of Britain:

Turned a page and got a random swastika jumpscare. But it’s not what you think!

The swastika was the symbol of the National Savings Movement until the Nazis co-opted it for their own purposes. Unsurprisingly, the logo had to be changed after that.

This is sad:

Mothers desperately seeking information on what happened to their sons in World War I. I wonder if any of them ever got closure. I really hope they did.

In lighter news here’s a bit of sports, advice, gossip and film:

You’ll recognize the name Billie Burke – she was Glinda in The Wizard of Oz.

A fascinating glance into 1922!
