Gah. When I first saw this story, I was like “This is not worth commenting about, just ignore it,” but I just – I hate the tendency in nerdy circles (and probably other circles, to be honest) for people to compare harmless things that they personally did not like with things that are actually very harmful, that kill or ruin lives! That’s what leads to attitudes like this, which was years ago and I never forgot it, it was a real eye-opener. There is no situation where it’s appropriate to compare a movie to a rape (unless obviously rape took place during the making of the movie, which depressingly does happen), no situation where it’s appropriate to compare an otherwise innocent filmmaker to a rapist or Nazi, and no situation where it’s appropriate to compare a movie to a virus which is killing thousands of people.
…Especially not on the same day that a member of the Star Wars team did, in fact, die from coronavirus.
