I just heard this story today and I have thoughts. They’re not pretty. They’re really, really angry in fact.
I never really knew all that much about Lilly but she always seemed pretty cool and interviews and stuff. I liked her in the MCU and The Hobbit. But here, what’s really getting to me is her justification:
Some people value their lives over freedom, some people value freedom over their lives. We all make our choices.”
Putting the coronavirus aside for a second, what Lilly is basically saying here is that she values her freedom over other people’s actual, you know, lives. She apparently lives with her immunocompromised father, and she valued “freedom” over him. I really and truly cannot understand why this is a mindset that so many people seem to have, it horrifies me.
(Page Six framed her actions as “taking a stand against self-quarantining during the coronavirus pandemic.” No, she is not taking a stand, she is endangering others. What the actual fuck. Why is the media so fucking irresponsible. Try ‘Taking a stand against other people’s health’ maybe.)
Yes Lilly’s apology is nice and all but it doesn’t tackle the real issue at the heart of her original post, that she valued her right to do whatever the fuck she wanted more than she valued her father or her children. That’s not the sort of thing that can fixed with a sorry, that requires changing her whole worldview.
I hope once she was done making that post she sat down with her loved ones and explained to them in detail why her right to do whatever selfish thing she chose trumped their right to health and very possibly life.

This is an incredibly selfish and arrogant attitude to adopt especially with her father at risk.

Honestly I just cannot get over it. She sounds like a really awful person to be honest.
