tlmoe, bodily autonomy, and YOU! (/me)
OKAY I admit it I still occasionally lurk on the TLMOE subreddit, and it’s every bit what you’d imagine I suppose. Some samples regarding Melissa:
That Melissa had better stop being being a bitch and just give Todd a baby.
Melissa should suck it up and have a baby instead of guilting Erica into doing it.
I think she’s super selfish for not having a kid with Todd.
The survival of the human race is literally at stake. She’s putting
her feelings ahead of that and those feelings ultimately aren’t worth
shit if there is no society left.
For lack of a better word, it is bugging the hell out of me, because I am in a similar situation! It’s never outright said that Melissa doesn’t want to get pregnant because of her mental health situation, but we can assume it’s a factor, and – yo. I’m not ruling it out entirely, I’m honestly not, but I think adoption is the way to go. Obviously I’m not one of only a handful of people left alive after an apocalypse either, but –
I really appreciate that the show/Melissa has doubled down on this. I mean – Melissa is actually really great with kids and doesn’t dislike them at all. Her husband wants a baby and has made that very clear. This series of TLMOE has been all about trying to ensure the human race lives on and she’s the only woman of childbearing age who hasn’t basically signed on to have as many kids as possible. Maybe she should just suck it up! But she’s not gonna, because it’s her freaking body, and even over the six-month timeframe of the last episode she doesn’t once waver in Not Wanting A Baby Ever.
It’s a little thing in a show that’s basically a live-action cartoon but I’m really grateful for it. [nb. If the show goes back on this for any reason, disregard this post entirely and note my pissed-off-ness.]
