Star Wars for the fandom thing? (it was the only thing I recognized I don’t think has been asked)
Aw NICE I have so many for Star Wars
….wait, d’ya mean the movies themselves or the fandom? NEVER MIND I WILL DO BOTH
1) More LBGT characters in the movies. Or…any. It’s long overdue. Chirrut and Baze could’ve been husbands with one throwaway line of dialogue! I would change that immediately
2) I would change the fandom constantly using the prequels as a punchline/an exercise in gatekeeping etc, I love them and a lot of folks do
3) I would also change…pretty much the whole fandom, present company excepted, because it is terrible and bigoted and cruel in pretty much every way
4) I would change Watto because he is very much an antisemitic stereotype, and a very obvious one that I can’t believe no-one looked at and went “wait a minute…” >:(
5) More ladies
My Star Wars fan-heyday was, like, after I saw Episode III with basically no real understanding of what Star Wars was. My parents had just gotten married/were kinda poor/not scifi people/lived under a rock in the late 70s, so they kind of missed the boat. So I didn’t grow up with Star Wars. Then a neighbor girl introduced me to Episode I, but it was really confusing without context because we mostly watched all the scenes with interesting Queen Amidala outfits. I didn’t really understand the connections of history there. Her grandfather tried to explain it to me, but it wasn’t enough.
I think i was fifteen or so when I went to see Ep III on a whim with my cousin. I just really wanted to get out o the house. I might have been fourteen. Anyway, that was how my real exposure to and understanding of Star Wars began. (I have a habit of this. One of my first few episodes of Doctor Who was Doomsday, then I was working backwards for a while.) And I was a teenager, and I was really taken sympathy for Padme and a romantic fix-fic kind of spirit going into seeing the other two prequels. Plus, I seem to have a thing for slightly-younger-dude ships when it’s not disgusting.
As I got older, I could see the validity of some criticisms I saw, but my Star Wars nostalgia is very connected to the prequels. The Star Wars resurgence is exciting in an abstract way, but my mind has been mostly-elsewhere, so I’m still in need of seeing Rogue One. I really appreciate your meta about the prequels, though!
Awww thank you! :D
