Like I hate that manic pixie dream girl is like…. It can be legit feminist critique on a good day but honestly it’s just ableist bs most of the time??
This is SO REAL like 90% of ~Feminist Media Analysis has this problem.
interesting only tenuously related bit of trivia- Zooey Deschanel has ADHD. I read that yesterday fact fans
I have been writing on how ableist feminist posts on MPDGs tend to be since at least April now. Especially when the entire criticism or joke is “this person cannot function like a ‘normal’ adult.”
I’m happy to see other people are noticing this as well.
As a person with adhd I was very happy to see the mpdg as an accepted way to be …. basically myself. To not surpress my symptoms, but to see them as loveable.
As a feminist I want to distinguish between mpdgs as people (very okay!) and the way they tend to be portrayed as only a thing to further the development of a male character (not good!).Anyone remember that video about an inpatient facility for MPDGs where the whole punchline was the R-word?
Instead of MPDG being a criticism of men for not seeing that women are always whole people with our own needs and agendas, even when we’re quirky or emotionally intuitive?
