REASONS YOU SHOULD WATCH BROOKLYN NINE-NINE:
- it has a wonderful diverse cast of very very talented and hilarious actors who portray interesting, multi layered characters
- when it comes to said diverse cast, they’ve dealt with it beautifully. no race jokes have ever been used for laughs. TWO latina women ( two. it still gets me emo ) portray two very different characters, who are in their own way super badass and interesting, and are not sexualized as latinas often are in the media. terry crews, the super buff black guy from white chicks, portrays a soft, family-oriented cinnamon roll without letting it affect his “manliness.” i’m so glad b99 can masterfully stomp over all these damn stereotypes its beautiful to watch
- its genuinely funny without having to use general problematic jokes that most sitcoms use: there’s no racist or sexist or homophobic comments used for laughs and no second-hand embarrassment. it’s so freeing
- b99 is a “feminist” show in the sense that it actually treats its female characters as actual human beings. its sad that reaching what should be a common standard is considered life-changing but here we are
- it portrays multiple beautiful relationships between all the characters. you have childhood best friends, parental figures, ladies sticking together, a slow burn relationship and a healthy gay marriage!! not to mention that the whole squad is the most important friendship on the show
- it deals with real world issues and has no chill when addressing them.
- obviously its not perfect, but it’s so damn close. it’s my true unproblematic fave and it’s made rewatching other sitcoms so hard for me because its does so much right while other shows are still relying on shitty jokes from the 1900s
- its basically the best show out there right now and i dont understand why more people won’t watch this masterpiece
