A former investment banker who challenged Rep. Jerrold Nadler for his U.S. House seat and lost in the Tuesday primary confused a quote from the popular Broadway musical “Hamilton” and attributed it to the real founding father.
“As Alexander Hamilton says, ‘This is not a moment, this is the movement,’” Oliver Rosenberg said during a debate on WYNC’s The Brian Lehrer Show between the two Democratic candidates on Monday. “’Foes oppose us. We take an honest stand. We roll like Moses claiming our promised land.’ Rise up, rise up and vote.”
Indeed, the quote was not actually said by the author of the Federalist Papers Alexander Hamilton, but instead said by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator of the Broadway musical with the same name.
