george lucas literally set up return of the jedi to be an allegory of/protest against the Vietnam War
revenge of the sith
was so anti-Bush (Anakin even paraphrases a Bush line at one point) that people boycotted it
emperor palpatine was very deliberately based on Nixon
lucas later went on to compare Bush to Darth Vader and Dick Cheney to Palpatine, plus he’ll talk at any given opportunity about how political he wanted the prequels to be
but please, keep talking about how ‘the sjws’ have ‘destroyed star wars’ by bringing politics into it
sith trump when
actually!
Probably not? I say probably because y’know, I don’t know for sure…but it’s unlikely. Lucasfilm had a ‘no slash’ policy and all sorts of alienating goings-on back in the earlier days of Star Wars fandom, but the voice of Lucas the person (as opposed to Lucas the name of the company) seems, as far as I can tell, to have been pretty much absent from proceedings. Based on what I know of him (i.e. doesn’t particularly seem to like interacting with people ever) he seems to have just…ignored them, let them run rampant cease-and-desisting people, and gone back to directing his movies/raising his kids/having water-fights with Spielberg and what have you.
Then in 2008 he seems to have woken up and donated $50,000 to Equality California (Lucasfilm the company donated a further $50,000) in order to fight the ban on same-sex marriage. Which is, y’know, what millionaires should be doing so it doesn’t deserve praise really, but not many people know that I guess?
Anyway, ~*follow for more positive george*~, etc.
