Because we’re not used to it. Britain’s usually a cold, wet country, and we don’t have the infrastructure to handle hot weather. When I worked in a care home, everyone started mildly freaking out when summer came because the old and the sick are particularly in danger. There’s always a high death toll, and ecological problems, and people getting heatstroke, and lots of extra worry for disabled folk, especially since public transport is usually disrupted…
So, well, yeah, we are weak. But there’s very little we can do about it. And it really sucks to come on Tumblr and hear people making light of something that kills people, and will kill them again this year.
