I mean along with him being an artist and being intelligent enough to go toe-to-toe with Enjolras in debates, the guy was a fucking badass

the real tragedy of his character I think is not that he was desperately pining over Enjolras, but more can you imagine the man he could have been had he not been dragged down by depression and drink?
