A Star Trek-style Universal Translator is invented. But it’s adware, so sometimes its translations put brand names in place of generic words. So people get accustomed to hearing people drop random product placements in conversations. Like, someone says “I’m in the mood for pizza” and it comes out with a specific brand.
Oh, or even worse, just randomly dropping in actual ads in response to certain keywords. “I’m taking a trip to the Rigel system next week. And if you act right now, you too can take a trip anywhere in known space for 25% with CentauriTravel! Use promocode 25off!”
You shouldn’t have asked the Ferengis to produce it.
