Beaded doll: Ahsoka Tano

This week’s doll is Ahsoka Tano, first introduced in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars series, and let me just say right from the start please forget everything I’ve ever said about hair being difficult.

Well. In case the above sentence didn’t make it clear, that was quite a tricky one ;)  I actually started on this doll several months ago, then got stuck trying to figure out how to shape the head tails, got frustrated put it aside for a while, came back later, and so on, until I finally sat myself down a little while ago and didn’t let up until I found a shape that worked. I probably made five or six “test heads” before I figured out the final version…

Once I had the design finished, the actual construction was a bit of a problem as well, because there’s hardly any room – once I had the head and body finished, I actually had to grab my needle with small pliers at times to attach the arms because my fingers couldn’t fit under the lekku to reach her shoulders and upper back. So all in all, this is definitely the most challenging doll I’ve made so far, and I must say I’m rather proud for finishing it :)

Casting For CBBC’s ‘The Worst Witch’ Remake Announced

rachelannepilcher:

In case you haven’t heard, TV bigwigs have announced that a new TV adaptation of Jill Murphy’s The Worst Witch is in the works for CBBC.

Having been fully obsessed with the show (and with trying to figure out how we could attend Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches) when we were younger, it’s safe to say we are EXCITED.

Now, the remake’s cast has been announced, with talented newcomer Bella Ramsey stepping into the lead role of Mildred Hubble, a role originally played by Georgina Sherrington.

Meibh Campbell and Tamara Smart will play Mildred’s friends Maud Spellboy and Enid Nightshade, while Maud’s enemy Ethel Hallow, who was originally played by Felicity Jones, will be portrayed by Jenny Richardson.

Meanwhile, Downton Abbey and Doctor Who’s Clare Higgins will play headteacher Miss Cackel, Downton Abbey’s Raquel Cassidy will take on the role of Deputy Head Miss Hardbroom and Miss Bat will be portrayed by The Royal’s Wendy Craig.

Nicole Stephenson from Emmerdale will play Ms Hubble, while EastEnders star Kacey Ainsworth will play health-and-safety conscious teacher Miss Gullet.

Jill Murphy says: “Published 42 years ago, The Worst Witch has been
the cornerstone of my career. I illustrate my own books, so I am very
protective about them in every way, and I’m delighted to say that this
wonderful new production ticks all the boxes.

“There have been a few
changes, to nudge the Academy into the 21st century, but die-hard fans
needn’t worry, Miss Hardbroom is always on hand making sure that
‘Standards will NOT be slipping!’ Now, when my readers ask if they can
visit the school, I can tell them ‘watch the new series of The Worst
Witch on CBBC and you’ll feel as if you’ve just flown in through the
window!‘”

The 13-part series will be shown in early 2017.

is there a smell comparable to space ? i assume we dont know because we would die if we tried to smell it but thats so cool

hoths:

yeah if humans tried to smell space just like that, we’d die, no doubt about it

but the smell of space lingers on spacewalk suits, and docking hatches when astronauts open them!

apparently, space itself smells like burning hot metal, or a hot barbeque grill with a slight hint of spent gasoline. The moon, apparently, smells like a gun after its been shot!

The coolest thing about it all is that the smell is actually what are left of dying stars- it’s literally the smell of stardust, and the particles smell like that because they’re so rich in hydrocarbons- something so very essential to life, and speculated by a lot of astronomers and astrobiologists and such to be the very thing life on earth started from!

another neat fact is that no two solar systems smell the same- ours smells like that because our solar system in particular is extremely rich in carbon, and other solar systems and places in the universe will have extremely different smells depending on what elements are most abundant in their system!

Vanessa Hudgens DC Comics superhero comedy gets series order

DC Comics is offiically launching a comedy series on NBC.

The network has given a series order to Powerless, which stars Vanessa Hudgens (Grease Live)
as a “spunky young insurance adjuster specializing in regular-people
coverage against damage caused by the crime-fighting superheroes.”
(Think The Office meets Agents of SHIELD minus Marvel).

More details about the pilot storyline: “It’s
when [Hudgens’ character] stands up to one of these larger-than-life
figures (after an epic battle messes with her commute) that she
accidentally becomes a cult ‘hero’ in her own right … even if it’s just
to her group of lovably quirky co-workers. Now, while she navigates her
normal, everyday life against an explosive backdrop, Emily might just
discover that being a hero doesn’t always require superpowers.”

Alan Tudyk, Danny Pudi and Christina Kirk are also in the cast, with Ben Queen as writer and executive producer.
