#tbh I’ve been finding the discussion about Marisa tomei a little disheartening#and I think it reflects a bizarre kind of ageism#like women get dragged for “looking their age”#or whatever the fuck that is#and dragged for when they don’t#like I saw a post yelling about how marisa took away a role for a 50+ actress#but she is 50+!#and a comtemporary of rdj!#not to mention#SHE IS AN ACADEMY AWARD WINNING ACTRESS#like given the real life age is appropriate and not outrageous#I can’t help but think that this is another case of women getting dragged just because#and I find that tedious#especially in the name of so called feminism or whatever the fuck#because it is like tumblr thinks that anyone over twenty five is a crone or something
I find it bit disheartening too. I know the original complaints about her casting stem from ‘why can’t Hollywood write action roles for older women when it can for older men, why are they stuck being the mother’ and I get that, but it’s still kinda bugging me. Especially since I guess I sort of feel like the conversation about this particular case should have swung round to “how is this talented actress going to interpret this actually pretty important role?” by now, but everyone’s just going on about her looks instead.
