James Michael Tyler (you know him as Gunther from Friends) has stage 4 prostate cancer, which spread far enough to paralyze him below the waist. It’s so sad. I wondered why he didn’t appear in person at the Friends reunion and well, he explains his reasoning here. I totally get why he waited until now to go public.

I rewatched Friends recently and (like I think a lot of people) I couldn’t work out why Monica decided to name her baby boy after her father, since she’d already talked about potential baby names and ‘Jack’ wasn’t one of them. Then it occurred to me that she might not be honoring her father with the name choice so much as dishonoring her horrible mother. Seeing as she didn’t call her baby girl ‘Judy’ to match it was basically subtly telling her “Out of both my parents, you’re the one I don’t love enough (thanks to your years of abuse) to name one of my kids after you.”
