fallout 76

Fallout 76 inexplicably emerges as my #1 lockdown distraction

WHAT THE HELL. A couple of weeks ago while in lockdown I got bored and started playing FO76 again, forgetting that Wastelanders was scheduled to come out in April. The game itself was a buggy tire fire of bad choices and company greed but I liked the world, okay? I like all Fallout worlds. So I logged on, I had a bit of fun seeing people sell toilet paper and I built more at my camp, which was always hands down my favourite part of the game. Then I got bored and was about to ditch it again. And then! Wastelanders came out! WHAT THE HELL! IT WAS ACTUALLY GOOD.

And, you know, free! I still haven’t forgiven Bethesda for Fallout First and I probably never will but… this is appreciated nonetheless?

This is the game Fallout 76 should have been in the first place. If it’d been released in this state I don’t think it’d have been anywhere near as poorly recieved. Having a game with NPCs and quests and actual things to do makes all the difference it turns out!

Human enemies, as well! And you finally get to see what the Overseer looks like after all this time.

There are new locations to explore that actually have a ton of substance to them!

And, this is the thing I might like the most so far, you can actually befriend people and take them back to your camp! (Only one person at any one time, as far as I can tell, but still.) I met this apocalypse grandpa and adopted him.

I am STAGGERED that the Fallout I know and love is back but very pleased. Why couldn’t they have released all this right at the beginning? Still I suppose releasing Wastelanders during a global pandemic was a surprisingly good move in the end?

Oh no, for real this time

I’m not going to play Fallout 76 today after all.

This is ridiculous. I can’t believe Bethesda are shooting themselves in the foot like this. And I love Fallout! I have a whole shelf of Fallout stuff! The Pip-boy, the power armour, the maps, the lot! Fans deserve more respect than this, son of a bitch!

I’m going to play Fallout 4 instead. Don’t think I’ll be going back to 76 for a long, long while.

Oh no!

Happy Great War Day! I wonder what’s going to cause it? My money is on Boris Johnson.

Maybe this is a sign I should pick Fallout 76 up again today. Eventually I despaired of it and quit, but I hear things are getting better, there’s NPCs in it now. And it is quite aesthetically pleasing, to me at least.

I’ll see you there if I don’t get blown up.
