Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead

That was okay, but I have no desire at all to watch it again. The only really exciting bit was the Dramatic Foreshadow at the end. Maybe Doctor Who’s the sort of show that works better with arcs, or something.

Guess Captain Magambo is the replacement for the late Harriet Jones: a woman willing to do very unpleasant things to defend the Earth. Actually, that makes her quite interesting. I hope she shows up again. I’d really like to read/write a fic where she’s a not-necessarily-positive role model for Martha.

Speaking of Martha, she and/or Jack and Torchwood would have fit so perfectly into this story. Every Doctor Who story is made instantly better if Martha is in it.

Didn’t really like Lady Christina very much. She is quite Timelordy though. I expect that if she ever returns to the show she’ll have a pocketwatch in tow.

(Wow…that was like a little poem or something.)

I expect there to be fanfiction, probably of the slashy variety, about Barclay and Nathan working for UNIT.

Suspect slightly that maybe the real reason the Doctor didn’t take Christina along at the end is because of her hesitation before giving up that gold cup she stole to save everyone on the bus. I mean, come on! Random shiny stuff is nothing compared to seven lives. I thought the Doctor would give that for his reason, but actually it’s because he’s still upset over Donna. He does save her from the police and give her a flying bus, though.

Loved the trailer for the next special. Is it Stephen Moffat’s work? It looks like the sort of thing he’d come up with.

Oh, and a desert planet with three suns? Someone’s been watching Star Wars…

Doctor Who:

UNTITLED JACK/MARTHA
Have been working on and off on a Jack/Martha fic. I love those two. Not entirely sure if it will ever see the light of day, though. It was set across about, oh, a thousand or so years (from after Last of the Timelords to Jack’s time as The Face Of Boe) so I suppose it’s at least ambitious.

THE GINGERBREAD HOUSE
This one will probably never be finished, largely because I’ve forgotten what it was supposed to be about. Mickey was in it, and his grandmother, and his adventures in Pete’s World, but that’s as far as I’m getting. It might have been a Mickey/Jackie fic, come to think of it.

FAIRYTALES
What happened to Adam after being abandoned on Earth. May actually some day be finished: it was written before Torchwood even started, but featured Torchwood, and managed to come out mostly still canon-compatable.

THE ONE ABOUT MICKEY’S FATHER
Got about halfway through this one. Mickey’s father goes looking for him after the events of Doomsday.

FIVE PEOPLE AND/OR GROUPS OF PEOPLE WHO SHOULD HAVE BEEN COMPANIONS
I think I started this one after Series Two. However, since then there’s been so many people who would have been awesome companions that I might have to change it to ‘twenty people’.

Star Wars

UNTITLED PRE-TPM FIC
This one, if it ever gets written (and I reckon it might, at some point) was going to be Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan tracking down a child-killer on Coruscant. Might be actually good, might not.

Crossovers

I plan to write something crossing over all my fandoms, just to see how that turns out.

I sort of want a new layout for this journal but I like the original one too much. If only I could just tweak it it’d be perfect…

30 Women

Okay, this is a challenge antistar_e is doing, and it’s a wonderful idea and I want to do it too. :p

The challenge is to write 30 ficlets for 30 women. (I believe orginally it said fabulous women…but some of these people are downright nasty characters.)

*Not including Leia or Padme because I’m no good at writing them.

**Okay, she’s not actually in the movies, but she’s mentioned. I wrote her in Faith In Humanity and I like my version of her.

***This is a Ben Elton novel. It’s probably not that good a novel but I like it all the same.

The problem with Rose

(This is best described as a stream of conciousness.)

Rose isn’t a good role model, or something. I don’t know about that. I hate her selfishness and the way she treated Mickey and Jackie, but…well, I always thought that if I knew Rose in real life, if she was a classmate or something instead of a fictional time traveller, I’d rather like her. Heck, I think I probably do know some Roses.

She’s not a feminist character. She gives up her whole life for a man. One of the Roses I know tells me she’s a feminist. Is Rose Tyler a feminist? Maybe she is. Who knows.

Rose Tyler as a person isn’t all bad. She’s quite good, actually. She’s incredibly selfish, true, but she’s also sweet and funny and very brave and determined and loyal. Rose Tyler as a character…well, that’s the thing, isn’t it?

If my hypothetical daughter told me she admired Rose Tyler, I don’t think I’d mind. So long as she didn’t actually run off with a much older man and make me worry and almost break my heart. But that’s Russell’s fault, not Rose’s. Right? Right…?
