I think I remember reading they based his new design on Lex Luthor (which makes sense!) But I wonder if they erred super on the side of caution to avoid the icky connotations that come with apparently the only terrorist in the world being Unresearched Foreign.
That’s…….god, that’s really difficult, actually. He was one of my first Doctors, and I adore David Tennant as a person, but….hm. I think a lot of my problems with him stem from the fact that he very often acts in a horrible way, but while he’s called out on the “TIME LORD VICTORIOUS!” stuff, he’s never really called out on all the little, casual unpleasant stuff he does. Like picking on Mickey, or insulting Jackie’s intelligence, or disregarding Penny Carter after she did all the work, or being an absolute dick to people panicking in awful situations (I do not, do not, do not understand where “Ten was lovely to everyone and would have taken anyone aboard the TARDIS! Eleven only likes magical people!” thing comes from WHEN THE EXACT OPPOSITE IS TRUE.)
I think basically, I like “IT IS DEFENDED!” Ten. I really, really hate with a burning passion “Not her, she’d only hold us up” Ten.
