censorship

My obscene parts

Yesterday I was mindlessly browsing through Reddit, something you should never do, and I came across a post about breast cancer and how horrible it is. But every “breast” was typed as “brea$t” and every “period” as “per!od.”

Telling people the symptoms of breast cancer is obscene now. It makes me shitting fucking cunting sick.

I just saw an acquaintance use “👖🛝” in place of the word genocide and. like. at what point are we going to decide that this kind of self-censorship is too degrading to abide anymore.

Jesus fucking shitting cunting Christ what the hell is WRONG with everyone?

Say more cuss words. Please. Those of you who don’t remember bulletin boards might not know about the long, bitter, and bloody wars we had to fight for the right to say cuss words on the Internet, and now they’re trying to take it away again. Fuck. Shit. Dang, etc.

Fuck at this point I’d settle for people just saying the word “sex” again

yeah actually we removed the big bad wolf from the little red riding hood story because portraying violence against minors is really messed up. yeah. yeah also the wolf narrative was really predatory and had had some icky grooming vibes and a fable meant for literal children shouldn’t have implied p*do shit and grape so now little red riding hood goes into the woods and nothing happens and she goes to grandma’s house. don’t worry our kids will still stick to the path and know not to follow to wolves implicitly because we told them to and children should always do as their told. just like little red riding hood does now.

“you don’t like the proliferation of terms like Unalive outside of TikTok because you realize that you’re aging out of youth culture and it makes you uncomfortable!”

no I don’t like it because there’s something INCREDIBLY dystopian about being forced to soften terms for basic parts of the human experience like death and sex (and even more so terms for oppressed minorities- call me a “le-dollar sign-bian” and I will bite you) purely because advertisers and corporations demand it

The idea that young people are getting used to not being able to speak in public about sex, queerness etc without talking around censors, and see this as normal and not a problem, scares me tbh.

The fact that people are so comfortable with being censored that they Voluntarily censor themselves on words and topics that aren’t even being limited is a terrifying sign

I hate to be like the “THIS IS JUST LIKE 1984” guy but. there was literally a thing in that book where you had to say “double plus ungood” instead of “bad” because you weren’t supposed to talk about bad things. if you told me ten years ago that “unalive” was a word that George Orwell had coined for Newspeak I would have believed you.
