It’s kind of interesting how in the episode Betty, Simon describes his glasses as being his essence, but in Holly Jolly Secrets, Ice King is embarrassed of it.
It’s almost as if the crown is negating his very essence…
“I am the End and the Beginning. I am the Hand of Madness.” 94 episodes ago, Finn spoke these words. From the perspective of then, it sounded like the Crown was speaking those words, that the Crown viewed itself as the end and the beginning. But… well, the newest episode.
“Finn, do you remember?” “Y-yeah, I think so… a long time ago, I was you somehow… and I crashed on Earth…. and became a butterfly somehow… I guess it was just some random absurd thing…just a joke I’ve been playing out for centuries.” “….Who’s creating the joke? Are you? And if so, are you my creator?” “Maybe? I don’t know, probably not.” “Probably not, but who knows. I have been around forever, and experienced so much impossible junk… I’ve embodied all that is good… /Finn/ and evil /The Lich/…. And now we’re here. It’s unprecedented. And I give you a choice. Come with me to the end, and the beginning, or struggle here a while like a beautiful Autumn leaf.”
Finn is the End and the Beginning. Finn is the universe. Finn isn’t the messenger or the vessel or even the puppet of the cosmic forces. Finn is… Finn is…. He is the universe. . And about the comet, we had all assumed that it was evil. But it wasn’t. It is a tool. It is not a destroyer or a creator, It is both. It is Finn and the Lich, and it’s been searching for them.. to give them a choicechoice. It’s never been able to give a choice. It’s been absorbed by evil entities, it’s been the beginning, it has been the death of all life and the creator, but it has never met either. It was waiting this whole time. For as long as the universe has existed. It came to find Finn. To find him, and ask him to choose. To choose between beginning the universe anew and ascend to his true form. And he looks at everyone and everything he’s ever known, and decided that whatever lied beyond that gate wasn’t worth sacrificing his home for. ——— “You’re telling me to abandon all this stuff, but you’re not really making it sound bad.” “It’s not bad, I’m just giving you the choice of a new mode of existence.” “…I feel like I put a lot of work into this meat-reality. I’d like to see it through.” “Fair enough.” I think Finn doesn’t get it. Or at least, he’s just not able to think as vastly as the Comet was telling him of. So when she told him of a new mode of existence, he didn’t fully get what that would mean, beyond him being offered the chance to leave for a new world. Or perhaps his eyes have been opened.So… that means that this is all a game played between the two forces
of life and death, except where the cosmic being that is Finn chose to
become one with the world and lose his cosmic powers as a result, The
Lich chose to destroy everything because that is what he does. And yet
Finn is so powerful, that even mortal and weak, he is able to fight the
Lich who contains the power that Finn left behind. The Lich has all the
cards in his hands, and Finn still is able to best him. Because there is no end. There is only Finn and the Lich. Even the Ice King will fall, but Finn and the Lich will still fight. As long as they live, in however many forms they take, they will always fight. The adventure never ends. Because Finn will always be there to save the world that he created, or is.So it will always be…

Friday at 6PM is the final 2 episodes of Adventure Time Season 6. The First part, “Hot Diggity Doom” was boarded by Tom Herpich and Steve Wolfhard. The second part “The Comet” was boarded by myself and Andy Ristaino. It’s the only board I ever did with Andy. It’s also Andy’s last board. He left the show for a while to work on personal projects, which is something I hope to do in the future as well.
I’m really glad I got to do this board with Andy. He’s a chill dude and we connect a lot about psychedelic visual designs and scenarios.
I hope y’all enjoy this two part collision of motifs and themes we’ve been working with for a while. I believe Season 6, more so than previous seasons, will be more illuminating when viewed as a whole.
