Some optimistic part of me still sees the internet as a tool that will inevitably be used for good. Yes it can be abused and cruel people can take advantage of it, but that connectivity means it will be a lot harder for things to happen quietly.
Even on a small scale, we have provided beacons of light to so many people. So many children and lonely people who thought they were alone. So many opportunities.
Of course, that might be less of a thing going forward. We are going to have generations of people who now have parents who know exactly what the internet is and how it works. On one hand, that means we might have actual evolving and changing internet culture that promotes stability and safety, but on the other hand it means the people who found themselves because of that freedom might not be able to find solace in the new environment.
idk I’m just feeling optimistically pensive at the moment.
