“It’s one thing to ask audiences to suspend belief for this fairy tale, and it’s a whole other thing to ask them to consider for one moment that an otherwise sane woman would be so desperate as to fall for a creature who can’t even survive on dry land–not when there are actual men in this town.”
Haha man someone tell this dude that he is not the hot commodity that he thinks he is and personally speaking I for one am eager to get away from actual men and be whisked into the loving arms of a fishman.
id fuck a fish monster before even giving my number to a man who admits his best quality is being able to survive on dry land
I like how that guy calls himself a movie critic but he conveniently forgets that the movie takes place in 1962 before both the civil rights act and the women’s movement really picked up steam and started to evoke change. In that cultural environment I’d accept nothing less than a sexy fish man, because at least a sexy fish man isn’t the typical heterosexual American man of 1962.
I’ve seen the film, and it is phenomenal. And without any spoilers, the thing that made the antagonist so terrifying is how realistic he is. He’s not some grandiose monologuing villain. He’s a man who could be your next door neighbor— either in 1962, or even now, especially in this political climate.
