sevi007:

I’m currently reading through wookiedpedia whenever I get some free time in order to catch up with the Star Wars characters’ backgrounds and stories, and while reading about Obi-Wan, I noticed some very interesting things in his backstory, from when he was still a “youngling” as they seem to call children in Jedi training. Here my favorite few –

“… As a youngling, Kenobi had been fascinated by machines, building models of ships and even dreaming of becoming a pilot…“

“…but because of his ability to learn quickly, Kenobi became arrogant and was often impatient…”

“…Kenobi dueled one of his competitors, Bruck Chun, to draw the attention of the maverick Jedi Knight. Kenobi fought valiantly to the point of exhaustion. The final offensive against Chun was carried out so fiercely that Jinn thought Kenobi too dangerous and declined training the boy…”

Guys, this reads to me as if someone is describing Anakin. No wonder Obi-Wan and Anakin grew so close, no wonder Palpatine made sure that Obi-Wan was well-away from Anakin while the Sith Lord tried to tempt the younger on to become his student – if anyone in the whole Jedi order could come to understand, to support and to love Anakin like family, it would be Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan knows the struggle, he went through it himself. He could imagine what a pressure lays on Anakin for being “too old” (Obi-Wan was twelve, nearly thirteen when he became a padawan, and was already considered nearly too old for it). He knows what it is like to be angry, arrogant, impatient, even dangerous, perhaps.

Anakin and Obi-Wan could bond over that (if they just finally opened their mouths and talked to each other for once) they had the same love for models and building, they have just so much in common.

Gee, I love little things like that. It gives the characters so much more depth.

Oh gosh I forgot you GOTTA read the Jedi Apprentice series! (That’s where the above Obi-Wan stuff comes from) It’s not technically canon anymore I think but it’s really really good.

(If you want to of course! If you do, I have ‘em all ready to upload!)
