I’m mad about stuff tonight and that being mad derailed my intentions to write some recs and that makes me more mad, so HELP ME SOLVE THIS, PLEASE.
Tell me one thing you love completely, genuinely, and without a hint of irony, about Star Wars! (You can go more than once if you like!)
The thing I love about Star Wars is this: despite being set in a galaxy far, far away, with fantastical worldbuilding and mythology, it is ultimately a grounded story of how the heart can triumph over anything, even when the odds are insurmountable.
Star Wars is a story of love.
It’s a story of friendship and family, the ups and downs and everything in between. It’s a story of how the bond between parent and child is the most powerful force in the universe. It’s a story of how the heart has the power to wreck us, but also to heal us. It’s a story of how love is more than a candle – it is something that can ignite the stars.
Star Wars is a story of hope – rebellions, after all, are built on it. It’s a story of how empires can literally fall by the actions of just a few, with conviction. It’s a story about how even if evil manages to lurk in the shadows, there will always be a way to conquer it. It’s a story about how as long as there’s light, we’ve still got a chance; and there is always, always light.
And that is what I love about Star Wars.
strip away the meta, the Discourse, the pages and pages and pages (and more) of world-building and extended universe and complexity.
and all that is left is this story about three kids (which three? it doesn’t matter) who hold the fate of the universe in their palms and the kindness, the courage, the grace with which to kiss it gently and let hope spring forth.
i love Star Wars for its High Opera. for its drama. for its sheer ridiculousness. for it’s wish fulfillment. and for its trust in the best parts of ourselves.
