i have just learned that the stinky slimey fish man is a metaphor for people of color and the movie’s premise is a white woman falling in love with it and its meant to be a parallel to real life interracial relationships and i honestly dont even know where to begin dissecting that
i guess i shouldnt be surprised but i know tumblr liberals are going to eat this shit up without giving a second thought to how using a literal monster (played by a white man) that gets saved by a white woman as a stand-in for a black man is fucked up
I mean… You know “Person of Color” isn’t just another way to say African-American, right? And Guillermo del Toro is from Mexico. It’s.. It’s almost like he might have a valid perspective on being non-white in America?
Guillermo has explicitly said that it’s about his experience as a Mexican immigrant that doesn’t always feel welcome and safe in America. The fish dude is very much a stand in for del Toro.
