I am honoured to help Steven’s family during this difficult time. Though I am not sure we will get the $6,000 goal, any donation will help this family. This is my nimaamaa’s (mother’s) boyfriend’s cousin. We were all enjoying our day together until he got a call someone had murdered his cousin. The police claimed it was a stabbing, traumatizing the family. As word got out, our local news reported it as a stabbing (not too mention the news writer is known to be anti-native with past articles) and posting it on Facebook. A few commentors said he deserved it since he was in a “bad area” where he died in. We are all devastated.
It was later indicated as a vehicle manslaughter. But, the damage has been done and messed up the funeral as well as the case. The police are still investigating and posted three different cars that might be involved.

If you can so kindly share. I’m so sad for his children. We live in a country where not many people see First Nations, Metis and Inuit people as humans. They think we got money… We don’t.
