Freheit is one of George Lucas’s student films. It runs only about a minute long, but in the context of his career, it’s rather interesting. Like most of Lucas’ feature work, Freheit is about the importance of human freedom in the face of tyranny, though this film is a bit downbeat.

On a more technical note, it’s interesting to see Lucas’s Kurosawa influence at this early age. The movement of the camera and the editing in the woods sequence reminds me of similar moments in Rashomon and The Hidden Fortress.
