Is there any point in asking people on Reddit to stop being ableist and
using the r-word, or will I be fighting an uphill and very depressing
battle?

Honestly, as someone who regularly uses Reddit, I’d say it’s a useless and lost battle. The only subreddits that don’t end up being chock-full of shit like ableism, racism and misogyny are very tightly-moderated ones. r/girlgamers is the first one that jumps out to me. Same for r/LGBTr/gamerghazi / all associated subreddits and the SRS / Fempire subreddits in general.

There days I spend a good deal of time on r/morrowind, r/skyrimmods and r/WOT, which are generally decent, but you’ll still end up with some gobshite or other making *triggered* jokes and thinking he’s funny for it.

Currrently a tag called ‘TriggeredInFourWords’ is trending on Twitter. My faith in human nature is not high today.
