Imagine living in the universe where the Prequels were made first. Imagine them made in the 70s. Imagine them compared, positively against all the scifi that had come before.

Imagine the horror and rage and despair over Revenge of the Sith.

Then imagine the cries of ‘ruined forever’ at the start of ANH.

For real.

– Luke is no Anakin! He’s too whiny!

– Leia is not Padme! She’s too mean!

– Who the hell is Han? Why do I care? He’s not even a Jedi.

– Did Obi-Wan just go out like A PUNK?

– Anakin really is gone forever isn’t he? WELL HE DESERVES THIS.

And then everyone hates on ESB

Swamp!Yoda is CGI.  Horrors!  Why is he just hanging out instead of having epic lightsaber battles like he did in the 70s?

The upside is the return to form by having a downer ending! For a moment, everyone thought SW was going to ruin everything by going all Hollywood and making the movies about hope instead of brutal betrayals.

Oh my god, how furious would people be when Luke manages to redeem Anakin/Vader at the end of RotJ? I mean, some people would be happy because they loved Anakin and hated his turn to the dark, but all the people who loved Star Wars because it was dark and edgy would be screaming how Lucas sold out by having the series end on a high note instead of pain and angst like the original.

– star wars is supposed to be this complex character study. gosh, this is just too simplistic filled with black-and-white good guys and villains.

– why are the Jedi being portrayed as like these super wise space monks? the originals were so brave to show us how messed up they were as an organization, adding more depth to the struggles we saw on screen. see, this is just one more example of how simplistic these new movies are.

– why don’t we get to see the pOLITICS? one of the things i loved about the originals was how we got to see members of the senate at work, and world building details like the jedi being sent to naboo because of trade route problems. it made the galaxy far far away seem more real.

– i mean, gosh the set design. it’s just so grungy. remember all the colors and grand costumes and elaborate worlds of the originals? the cinematography in this one hurts to look at.

– ugh, Chewbacca is the worst. He’s so unfunny. Remember Jar Jar and how much we loved him? (okay that one kind of hurt)
