There were so many moments, any of which SHOULD have been the step too far.

Whenever he said something horrible, offensive, sexist, out of place, inappropriate, I was like “okay, now they drop him as a candidate… I mean, they can’t keep him.”
But nothing happened.
Next time: “Las time they have gone over it, but now he has really said unacceptable things, they can’t…”
Next time: “Is he still here? Seriously?”
Next time: “But how can they…?”
Next time: “You know what? I give up, I’ll never understand.”

I’ve heard why time and again from men on the street, in supermarkets, in barber shops : “We like him because he says what everybody’s thinking anyway and doesn’t care about being politically correct.” Think about THAT for a moment.

No one ever went broke underestimating either the taste or the basic decency of the American public.
