Character: David Lister
Appears in: Red Dwarf
Commonly interpreted as: StraightBut really: Lister is shown throughout the series to be attracted to women and has many relationships with women, especially his reoccurring love interest, Kristine Kochanski. However he has also kissed several male characters, including his friend Petersen (2×04), though whether it was romantic or platonic is up to interpretation. Lister also had a very romantic dream about kissing his former crew-mate, Arnold Rimmer (7×05). In another episode (7×04), when told that a version of himself from an alternate universe is gay, he repeatedly insists that he is not gay, but neither does he explicitly say that he is straight. He also describes himself as “an enlightened 23rd century guy”. David is bisexual as hell.
On multiple occasions, Rimmer acts as if he knows (or suspects) that
Lister is attracted to men. In one episode (3×02) he walks in on what he
thinks is Lister having sex with Kryten (a male robot) and says “You’ll
bonk anything, won’t you Lister?” as if he isn’t surprised. In another
episode he makes fun of Lister and Ace, an alternate version of himself,
by asking when they’ll announce their engagement. With many thanks to
