Watching Return of the Jedi followed up by The Force Awakens is kind of depressing, honestly.

It’s just… at the end of Return of the Jedi, you see the original trio, so happy and hopeful for the future. You have that feeling that things will finally be okay for them, that the galaxy can finally rebuild itself.

And then comes The Force Awakens, throwing all of them back to shit.

Not to say that this is a bad choice. Narratively speaking, it makes sense to have them take these similar but more mature (and more tortured) versions of the roles that they used to have, in their original trilogy.

It’s just sad to know that they still have to go through this enourmous amount of crap, even after all of their efforts.

This is why I sort of can’t…quite accept TFA as canon. I mean, I can, but…I can’t?

#I guess I like to think that in a thousand-odd years #scholars and academics will be hurling passive-agressive insults through virtual reality re star wars #’ACTUALLY I think you’ll find Kylo Ren was added to the story by Abrams and not Lucas #and thus many SERIOUS scholars of The Star Wars ignore him entirely #because I’m SORRY #But if we don’t have it in Lucas’s own handwriting it’s not canon!’ #’Your valorising of the author is dangerous nonsense! The author is dead and Han Solo lives! Screw this I’m going back to Mars.’
