Tumblr In General (which is not to be confused with The People Who Make Up Tumblr) has this strange thing going on where it’s your duty, where it’s the only morally right path, to put yourself first at all times. That wasn’t how I was raised, but I suppose it depends on the circumstances. (I suppose almost everything depends on circumstances). Like, you just see over and over, love yourself, even if you don’t. Don’t work too hard, don’t take on too much responsibility, nothing you might sacrifice for is worth more than you, total stranger. But –

– at the same time, Tumblr In General knows that any sort of justice in this world can only be achieved by “endless, arduous work”, to quote a post from last year that I agree with. I don’t know if they mean the valued and exciting sort of work, or if they mean the washing-dishes cleaning-toilets sort of work. But oh, it messes me up, the idea that there’s all this hard and horrible stuff to do but you’re buying into bad, possibly capitalist attitudes if you just wanna roll up your sleeves and do it. I mean, sometimes, if you don’t – on the most personal and terrifying of levels, who else is going to?

Anyway I had one of the most important conversations of my life today. It worked out good.
