autismserenity:

friendly reminder that in 1999 the Advocate ran a cover story called “What Is Transgender”, along with one titled “Whose Movement Is It?” that included a poll asking readers, “should transgendered people be a part of the gay rights movement?”

the results were 46% yes, 48% no, and 6% “not sure”

the executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans was quoted, in part, as saying “I’d say if a transgendered person doesn’t have a gay orientation, he or she is not part of the gay movement…. Adding transgendered people to a mission means arguing for a group of heterosexual people too".
