what is the point of you?

This is possibly the worst parallel ever feels wise.

The fact that more people don’t pick up on this parallel astounds me. The Doctor and the Daleks are two sides of a terrifyingly similar coin, and at times they’re even two sides of the same coin. The Daleks are evil, yes? Awful and hateful and full of mindless rage and destruction – but did they ever burn their own planet? Did a Dalek ever set fire to two races and watch them be destroyed as he stood aloof and apart from it all?

What we see in Amy’s Choice is the Doctor’s worst vision of himself. We see him at his darkest, his most self-destructive, and his most hateful towards everything that he is and what he’s done. He is the monster of the week. And if he can’t fulfill his superficial duty of bringing people back to life after they’ve been killed, the duty that isn’t actually possible but that everyone still expects from him anyway and that he still can’t do even in this dream reality, then what’s the point?

What makes him better than the Daleks he gave everything to defeat?
