I saw a brief review of Judd Apatow’s new show ‘Love’ and it said that a main disappointment of the show is that it follows the trope of “boring schlubby guy somehow gets with conventionally attractive girl” and that there is a severe lack of narratives where a non-conventionally attractive girl gets with a handsome guy
and come to think of it, ‘Girls’ is I think the only show currently out there that’s done that, that’s flipped the trope
and that’s pretty sad because ‘Girls’ is created by a sex-offending racist.
That really annoys me too, to the extent I started making a vague mental note of it every time I actually did see the reverse
So far I have a grand total of THREE things: Hairspray, The Vicar of Dibley, and Miranda. (And the last two aren’t remotely mainstream things outside Britain.)
