it’s real apparently Taylor really did give Kesha $250k after she lost her court case. that’s amazing. she just wrote her a check for a quarter of a million dollars. do you know how amazing that is… tweeting really doesn’t do much. sending “good vibes” does nothing. you know what helps in a system built to oppress and exploit women? money. money helps. that is what I am learning every day. this is the most feminist thing possible to do to support Kesha I think, just giving her money.
this is so important, I know so many survivors, myself included, who lived/live in poverty after abuse. Say what you will about Taylor Swift but anyone, especially any rich person, who didn’t give Kesha 250k is in no position, imo, to say that it’s not feminist to give her 250k as long as you don’t make a 140-character tweet. Money is what survivors need. Money helps us go to therapy, money gives us space and time to heal, money buys contracts back from abusive companies who would force a rape survivor to work with her rapist, money buys the rights to concepts developed with abusers. Money pays for lawyers, money talks in the justice system. Abuse causes poverty and poverty enables abuse. Giving victims money is a feminist act.
