Few things have unnerved me on tumblr this year so much as the vast, violent outpouring of hate towards the person who said that Deadpool had rape jokes in it. Did you see that shit? It was fucking disgusting.
So now that “those gosh-darn SJWs, trying to ruin Deadpool for us!” has become the dominant narrative in the Deadpool Discourse, I’m still…racking my brains as to why. Because it does have rape jokes in it, or sexual assault jokes in it least (which people usually count under the ‘rape joke’ banner). Like Deadpool grabbing Colossus’s penis and saying “Daddy?”, or Deadpool threatening the pizza guy with his “hard spots” and kissing him. Or even the “I pity the guy who pressures her into prom sex” gag, I guess, technically.
People inc. survivors will react to them in different ways, especially since Deadpool’s the one saying them. People might find them empowering, they might laugh, they might be pissed, it’s up to them. But one/a handful of people being unnerved by them and suddenly they’re public enemy number 1? Why are people putting the feelings of a movie/a fictional character above the feelings of real people?!
