Unpopular opinion: Anakin wasn’t an idiot for not noticing Palpatine’s intentions with him.
omg STRONGLY AGREE
Palpatine pretty much pulled the wool over the eyes of the entire Jedi order, who could allegedly sense intention. I don’t think Anakin was an idiot either. He was emotionally vulnerable and Palpatine gave him the emotional support and confidence boost the Jedi failed to give him. So he latched onto Palpatine as a sort of father figure and put blinders on to any warning signs he might have seen.
Reminder that everyone else, and namely Padme, had at least minimal trust in Palps as well.
Padme in particular was smart as hell, and close enough to both him and Anakin that if anyone was going to see what was going on, she would have; and she didn’t, because Sheev’s a deceptive and charming bastard, even after he’s declared himself
dictatoremperor.#when I read Last of the Jedi there was a part where Ferus had to chill with the emperor at some party#and guess what?#Bitch was so charismatic he had /me/ thinking ‘huh. he’s not so bad.’ for a millisecond.#that’s his thing#that’s the only way he made it#so poor young anakin who was emotionally unstable? nah. I don’t blame him a bit for not getting it.#fucking yoda couldn’t sense what was going on.
To add to that: Bail Organa apparently thought that Palpatine was a good and decent person.
Add into it that Anakin’s relationship with Palpatine has some aspects of child grooming, and there’s no surprise for why Anakin is so loyal to Palps, as tragic as it is.
