Don’t pretend you’re “unconventional” or “subversive” if you continually express or feel astonishment that anyone past adolescence ever has any kind of frivolous fun, including fandom, at all. If you truly believe this is a bizarre thing–or even if you don’t, and are deliberately attempting to make what you mistakenly believe to be “your” subculture a hostile atmosphere for anyone different than yourself–then you are a triumph of mass-media cultural conditioning and stodgier than any cardigan-knitting grandma could ever be. And by the way, “People over age X shouldn’t be in fandom, lol what are you even doing here” is “Get off my lawn.”
