MEET THE UK BOY ‘TOO DISABLED’ TO QUALIFY FOR DISABILITY BENEFITS
Seven-year-old Dylan Kirsopp has cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and a rare stomach condition which means he has to be fed through a drip. Now benefits bosses say he is too ill to qualify for disability living allowance, and his parents, Mandy and John, are set to see their family’s benefits axed next month.
They will also lose their specially-adapted car which means they will be unable to take Dylan out of the house.
This is because Dylan requires extensive hospital care, and the UK government states that if a child is in hospital care for a period of 12 weeks or longer, their disability benefits will be taken away.
Mandy, who quit her customer services job to take care of Dylan full time, will also see her carer’s allowance cut. This means the family will be forced to rely on the little money John makes as a part-time warehouse worker.
Mandy said: “It is just going to cripple us. Most of our income will be gone and we will have to rely on the support of other people. We are already looking at as many money-saving tips as we can and living on as little as possible. I don’t know how we will get through it.”
