– ‘modern’ fairytales with a twist. Badly photoshopped picture of princess going under plastic surgery ect
– black and white photos of sad girls with running mascara made by someone neurotypical
– words such as  ‘fat’ ‘ugly’ slut’ written on an otherwise standard pretty girl
– that one project that there is half a face in a normal style but then half a face in a cubist style but the cubist part doesnt even look cubist and its probably to do with identity or something
– the white kid who does banksy (theres always one)
– anything with a horse

ok tho i understand why people might have issues w/ some of these concepts but… why are a bunch of adults mocking high school-age people and criticising them for trying to express themselves? tbh people/posts like these are probably the most detrimental things to budding artists + are probably the reason so many young artists struggle to grow from these concepts into something more fleshed out. i thought we all agreed that it was time for adults on tumblr to stop being so fuckin rude +insensitive  to kids + teens? its 2015…. lets grow up

A HUGE part of being a young artist is learning and understanding. That like our adolescent minds, our styles are changing rapidly, and so are our skills. This is ok. There is a difference between constructive criticism and stunting young people’s talent. Everyone’s style is different, whether it’s young or mature doesn’t matter. Keeping on trying and learning to expand your practise is what makes us artists. So if someone draws a horse, so what!? DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO DRAW A GOOD FLIPPING HORSE!!! Stfu and stop diminishing what others find important.

#the original post is so disgustingly patronizing #most high school kids have not had the time or education needed for the visualization and depiction of original ideas #and will tend to get very inspired by existing art that reaches for them and that they might have a personal understanding of #not to mention that art classes in high school are around 5% of students’ priority because of how it’s seen in education #so the projects don’t necessarily end up being well researched and developped #that never means that the student isn’t creative enough #no one ever starts doing art already amazing and super original get off your high horse op #also not everyone has a mind geared for depicting #and the education system doesn’t encourage creative exploration anyway [x]
