i will always agree that disco as a whole is better than the entirety of the punk or rock movements or whatever the fuck lmao
fucking LOVE disco n i hate the pretentious jerks that hate it just cus their stupid hippie dippie parents hated it

It’s got a great beat and you can dance to it

Also a lot of the anti-disco movement was actually rioted in some pretty heinous homophobia because it was associated with the LGBTQ community and in particular gay men

+ Also racism was heavily involved. Disco is as much a gay genre as it is a black genre. Lots of early disco before it was co-opted by ppl outside of the ‘underground’ was just influenced by gospel and r&b music, just where you can dance to it. Big diva vocals ! It’s always been a battle between the ‘different’ music the challenging music that comes from the supposed underground, IE music made by ppl that fall outside of the straight white male industrial complex and the popular stuff you know? there’s a lot of history to be dissected when discussing why disco was so hated by the rock community in the 70s

This reminds me of how opponents of the EDL (a far-right, violently racist ‘English Defence League’) set up an alternative EDL called English Disco Lovers so people would google ‘EDL’ and get them instead. They’ve written about how disco was often a scapegoat for racism and homophobia (I didn’t know that, until I looked them up) and thus an ideal weapon for fighting fascist hooligans.
