i know there’s a lot going on right now but let’s please not forget that the steubenville rapist went free this week and is back on his high school’s varsity football team

“We don’t deal in death sentences for juvenile activity, and I just feel that he’s earned a second chance,” Saccoccia said.

Let that sink in. They’re giving him a second chance. Giving him another shot, another go, granting him this freedom to live as he would please. He committed a horrible crime, and they are rewarding him. That’s what this is. Yes he served time in a juvenile facility. Did community service. That’s a slap on the wrist. And now they’re turning him loose like nothing ever happened. “Oh hey, you messed up. But you have your whole life ahead of you, and we don’t want to get in the way of that, so here. Yeah yeah sex offender label, paperwork, record, blah blah whatever. Go play your sports. Have fun.”

That is how rape culture is perpetuated.

We have laws for a reason. We need to educate people on those laws, to the fullest extent. Because they need to know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that there will be permanent consequences for breaking those laws.

I don’t see permanence here.

The only permanent consequence is on the victim’s side. She has to live the rest of her life with what happened to her.

He didn’t give her a choice.

I don’t see why they’re giving him one.

“We don’t deal in death sentences for juvenile activity…unless you’re black and might have stolen something.”
