hey instead of a female doctor how about a female writer
“In fact, Doctor Who hasn’t aired an episode written by a woman since 2008[…]. There hasn’t been a single female-penned episode in the Moffat era, and in all the time since the show was rebooted in 2005 only one, Helen Raynor, has ever written for the show.” (x)
Here’s a story I dunno if fandom knows- after Helen Raynor’s first episode (Daleks In Mahattan) aired, the big Doctor Who forum Outpost Gallifrey was suddenly packed with threads along the lines of “this is why women shouldn’t write for Who”. I can’t remember how bad they got, but here’s a story from RTD’s book:
…Helen Raynor went on Outpost Gallifrey last month and read the reviews of her two Dalek episodes. She said that she was, literally, shaking afterwards. LIke she’d been physically assaulted.
So yeah.
