Sometimes, you know people. You can just see what’s coming.

Does anyone remember that superhero franchise a few years back when a woman’s hopes, dreams and career were portrayed as JUST AS IMPORTANT as her relationships with the male characters

BECAUSE I DO AND IT WAS GLORIOUS

This also applies to Smallville and “Lois and Clark.”

But it will never stop annoying me that people hate on MJ so much in these movies when she clearly had her own ambitions and goals for her life outside of Peter.   But she didn’t punch stuff.  So guess she’s useless or something.

Aw yeah, I remember that franchise where a women’s choices and ambitions were RESPECTED and ENCOURAGED, as opposed to just sidelined to make way for the male character’s story. Seriously, this trilogy was EFFING GOLD.

I LOVE EVERYONE IN THIS THREAD

Also!

-Ursula having a crush on Peter, but not being in the least jealous of MJ and in fact actively encouraging him to call her

-Gwen interacting with Eddie in a way a Nice Guy like him would totally interpret as flirting, and yet it’s made perfectly clear that nothing Eddie does to ‘win’ her is remotely her fault, that he’s a creep and she’s totally innocent in the matter

-Aunt May being just as important to Peter as Uncle Ben is/was (she’s arguably the moral center of the movies, I reckon.)

-May and MJ being friends

-Gwen not taking any shit from Peter once she finds out he’s using her, and her sympathies lying firmly with MJ

(I know the Spider-trilogy isn’t perfect – I’m not sure it passes the Bechdel test, come to think of it- but it was still REALLLLLY GOOOOOOOD with what it did do.)
