Doctor Who: The Name Of The Doctor
OKAY YES I’M SOLD I LIKE THIS SERIES
-ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FANDOM FEARED CAME TRUE
-NO JOHN HURT BEING THE NINTH DOCTOR
-NO MESSING WITH THE MYTHOLOGY
-NO DEATHS (although one horrible convincing fakeout)
-THE DOCTOR’S NAME NOT BEING HEARD, DID YOU REALLY THINK IT WOULD BE, COME ON
…Basically Steven Moffat appears to have taken everything fandom has been complaining about and done the exact opposite? Damn. I’ve never been that much of a fan of his but with this he’s really pulled it out the bag, I reckon.
Turns out Clara is a normal girl after all, and her story is one of an ordinary girl who made herself extraordinary, we were just seeing it in the wrong order. I like that. I like that very much.
River’s love for the Doctor and his for her is beautiful in this. And I don’t think we’ve seen the end of her? We’ve still got the Singing Towers. I am a little disappointed the Ponds weren’t mentioned, but you can’t have everything I guess.
Favourite bits (there are many):
-The few more glimpses of Victorian Clara and Oswin
-Also was that Ellie, Clara’s mother?
-The relationship between Vastra and Jenny is still lovely
-Strax is still brilliant
-(Can we have a spinoff now, please)
-Oh look it’s Gallifrey THAT OPENING WAS PERFECT
-Did you work in another, this time thankfully more subtle, Sherlock Holmes reference with the Doctor talking about beekeeping, Moffat?
-That fabulous JOHN HURT IS THE DOCTOR at the end. Totally over the top. I’ve decided I loved it.
-WORKING CLARA INTO THE ARCHIVE FOOTAGE WAS BEAUTIFUL AND AMAZING AND IT KILLED ME DEAD, SHE WAS A TIME LADY EVERYBODY, SHE WAS A TIME LADY AND AHHHHHHHHHHHHH
And lastly: After all that, all those months of speculation and rumours, The Name of the Doctor is a concept. How he wants to live his life. That’s just…screw it, that’s everything I hoped for.
