-I think you’d have difficulty arguing that Grantaire’s fascination with Enjolras wasn’t sexual to some degree, he did basically follow him around all day talking about how pretty he was. (“What fine marble!”) Then there’s the frequent comparisons to classical gay Greek lovers, Grantaire being ‘an unaccepted Pylades’ but always ‘returning to the chase’, him staring ‘tenderly’ at Enjolras on occasion, and…ooh, just read this, it’s good.
I’m straight myself so I don’t want to speak for everyone on this, but surely it’s not too much of a stretch to decide that Victor Hugo wrote Grantaire as being gay/bisexual on purpose? In the full expectation that people would understand what he was trying to say?
