Doctor Who: Dinosaurs On A Spaceship
Okay, this has probably been my favourite episode for a whole year
-RORY'S DAD. We didn't see as much of him as I'd hoped but he was great
-there was a joke about BALLS oh my god I'm immature
-There was all FEMINISM-Y stuff, like Amy announcing she was easily worth two men, and Queen Nefertiti attacking her abductor, and the guy who was creepy and objectifying of women meeting a sticky, explodey end.
–LESTRADE Rupert Graves was a Jack-esque big game hunter, which unfortunately caused one of the most morally odd moments of the episode: why is it not okay for Solomon to shoot a triceratops but it is okay for Riddell to shoot whatever animals he likes? Cos presumably he's still doing that.
-Rory carries around a nursing kit, of course he would
-Every Pond has now been kissed by the Doctor. Except Amy's parents.
-Amy is gradually becoming more Doctor-y which I love
-And she got all fangirly over Queen Nefertiti!
Um basically this episode was BRILLIANT and I'm much more cool with the idea of Chris Chibnall possibly being showrunner now.

I think it’s not okay to shoot the triceratops because a) we made friends with it, b) it is rare and needs to be protected, and c) the same confusing line of reasoning in which it is hideous and horrible to eat dogs but totally okay to eat cows. Otherwise I agree with everything and am stuck in incoherent joyflail mode and cannot really add to this post. Wait, what’s this about Chibnall being showrunner?

I keep hearing rumours that he’s taking over when Moffat leaves. Nothing concrete, though… This episode was WONDERFUL. :D I do think Rupert Graves was a bit of a weak point though, he was very funny but I can’t figure out why the occasionally anti-gun and mostly anti-violence Doctor would be friends with someone who shoots innocent creatures for fun. (Unless Riddell was the kind of big-game hunter who only went after animals that had harmed humans. Then I’d be more okay with it.)

He didn’t really seem like the Doctor’s type, but I dunno, the Doctor sees things in a lot of people who would be easy to dismiss. *shrugs*

Yes. Yes it was brilliant, wasn’t it? I dropped in on a few conversations elsewhere and they all seem to be missing the point with great Missing The Pointedness. I rolled my eyes so hard I damned near threw myself off my own chair and then I saw your post, and things got much better for me. And when you consider how much I rolled my eyes at Chibnall as a matter of course, and how much I groaned when I realized he’d written this episode – and then how much i forgave him for everything – yes, even Cybervixen and 42 – once this was over – well, you’ve got a basic idea of how much I loved this ep. Yes, I’ve just seen it for the second time, why do you ask?

Eek, who’s missing the point? Sure, you can get problematic stuff in any episode of anything, but there wasn’t that much here, I thought. (Doctor Who isn’t any more problematic than most shows/books/films, I think- it just gets discussed more for some reason.) I secretly quite liked that the guy who’s as close to an actual rapist as the show can go is the first guy for ages that the Doctor’s actually killed. Like, if he was going to kill anyone I’m glad it was a repulsive misogynist, if that makes any sense. Ahem. I am totally going to watch this again when it’s repeated! :D
